The material sets the look, the detail and the lifespan of your gobo. Here's the short version; if you're not sure, send us your design and we'll recommend the right one.

Most cost-effective

Steel

A metal stencil cut from your design. Ideal for bold, single-colour patterns, logos and text.

  • Best value for simple black-and-white designs
  • Crisp single-colour projection
  • Fine detail may need small support tabs (bridges)
Best for detail

Glass

Your design printed on heat-resistant glass. Handles fine detail, greyscale and full colour.

  • High resolution — photos, gradients, fine lines
  • Greyscale and multi-colour available
  • Recommended for long-term and permanent installs

Getting it right

Sizes & artwork

Two things decide whether a gobo drops straight into your fixture and projects cleanly: the size and the artwork. Here's what we need.

Sizes & fixture fit

  • Gobos come in standard sizes (A, B, M, E and more) to suit different fixtures.
  • The outside diameter and the image diameter both matter — we set both for you.
  • Not sure of your fixture? Send the make/model or a photo and we'll match it.

Artwork guidelines

  • Vector artwork (AI, EPS, PDF) is ideal; high-resolution PNG, JPG, TIFF or PSD also work.
  • For steel, keep it to a single colour with reasonably bold shapes.
  • For colour or greyscale glass, send full-colour art — we handle the separation.

Only have a logo in low resolution? Send what you have — we'll tell you if it needs redrawing.

How long does a custom gobo take?
Because each one is made to order, lead time depends on the material and current demand. Once you approve the proof we'll give you a firm turnaround. Working to a deadline? Tell us the date up front and we'll let you know what's achievable.
Can you do rush orders?
Often, yes — we understand production and event timelines. Let us know your in-hand date when you enquire and we'll do our best to meet it.
I don't know which fixture / holder size I have.
No problem. Send us the make and model of your fixture, or a photo of the gobo slot or holder, and we'll work out the correct size for you.
What if my artwork isn't print-ready?
Send whatever you have. We'll tell you if it will project cleanly at size, and let you know if a logo needs redrawing as clean vector art before we proceed.
Should I choose a standard or custom gobo?
If an existing pattern already does the job, a standard gobo is faster and cheaper — browse the full range in Find Your Gobo. Choose custom when you need your own logo, monogram or specific artwork.
Can I order more than one copy?
Yes. Additional copies of the same design are more economical than the first — tell us how many you need and we'll quote it.
