Flame retardancy you mix straight into the paint
Flamex PA is a clear, un-pigmented flame retardant additive mixed into water-based paint to make the finished paint film flame retardant. It lets scenic artists keep their chosen paint system while adding flame retardancy to the painted surface — one jar per gallon (3.79 L) of paint.

Best for — and the alternatives
Flamex PA is best for
- Adding flame retardancy to a paint film
- Keeping your existing paint system and colour
- Scenic murals and painted sets
- A simple one jar per gallon ratio
Treating the material instead?
Flamex PA treats the paint layer, not the substrate. If the raw material needs treating:
- Flamex MC → wood, foam & mixed materials
- Flamex NF / DF → natural / delicate fabrics
- Flamex PC → paper & cardboard
Flamex PA specifications
Flamex PA slows the spread of fire across the paint coating — it does not change the flammability of the material beneath it. Treat the substrate separately where required.

Need help specifying?
Treatment depends on the material, the venue's fire requirements and the application method. Talk to us before you treat a whole build.
Flame retardants reduce flammability; they do not stop materials from burning. Always test on a sample and follow the venue's fire authority requirements and the product data sheet.
