Flamex WD is discontinued — use Flamex MC
Rosco Flamex WD is no longer available. Its direct replacement is Flamex MC, a water-based multi-material flame retardant that treats every scenic material Flamex WD did — wood, MDF, fabrics and paper — and additional substrates as well.

Flamex MC replaces Flamex WD
Flamex MC is the updated Rosco flame-retardant system. It treats all the scenic materials previously treated with Flamex WD, using a single product across mixed builds.
Why MC replaces WD
- Treats all materials previously treated with Flamex WD
- Also covers additional scenic substrates
- One product for mixed scenic construction
- Water-based — spray, brush or dip
Same result, simpler
Instead of separate retardants per material, MC handles the whole build:
- Wood, plywood & MDF scenery
- Muslin & fabric backdrops and drapes
- Paper & cardboard props
Materials previously treated with Flamex WD
These are all treated today with Flamex MC:
Scenic timber
Wood scenic flats, plywood and MDF set construction.
Fabrics
Muslin backdrops, theatrical drapes and scenic fabrics.
Paper & structures
Paper and cardboard props, temporary scenic structures and event décor.
Switch to Flamex MC
Flamex MC is the current, broader-use replacement for Flamex WD. If you’re not sure it fits your material, ask us before you treat a whole build.
Flame retardants reduce flammability; they do not stop materials from burning. Always test on a sample and follow the venue’s fire authority requirements and the product data sheet.
