Painting a stage floor is never as simple as it sounds

It takes a beating
Wagons, rostra, flight cases and a cast in boots cross the deck all day. Ordinary floor paint scuffs and wears through with heavy use.
Marks and glare show
A gloss black shows every footprint and drag mark, and throws glare back into the lens and the front rows.
There is never enough time
Repaints happen between productions or in a school break. A paint that needs a separate primer and days to cure is a paint you cannot use.

Rosco describes Tough Prime Black as resisting scuffs and abrasions, drying to a durable, water-resistant coating that holds up to heavy stage traffic.
Low sheen, easy to clean
The egg-shell finish has a very low sheen, so it keeps glare down under lighting and shows marks less than a gloss floor. Rosco notes it is easy to mop.
Primer and sealer in one
It is a water-based scenic primer and sealer that also lays down the finished black. That means no separate undercoat to buy, mix or wait on.
Easy to resurface and touch up
Because it seals and finishes in one, bringing a floor back is simple. Scuff, clean and recoat the worn areas or the whole stage when it needs it.
Grips the surfaces you have
Rosco lists wood, metals and aluminium, PVC and plastics, foam and foamcore, and muslin. So it works across a patched, real-world stage of timber, MDF and plywood.
Fast drying, back in a day
Water-based, touch dry in 30 to 45 minutes and ready to recoat in 1 to 2 hours. You can lay more than one coat in a day and resurface over a weekend or a school break.
