Projected light vs. a screen.
When a design needs an image, a logo or moving effect, the instinct is often an LED screen or video wall. Optical projection — a Rosco Image Spot or X-Effects — achieves many of the same goals differently, and frequently better for architecture.
Light on the architecture, not a glowing box
A screen is the right answer when you need arbitrary, changing video content — menus, motion graphics, live feeds. But a screen is also a visible object: a bezel, a surface, a source of glare, and a maintenance item, and it rarely disappears into the architecture.
Optical projection puts light directly onto the building’s own surfaces. A framing projector places a crisp logo or pattern exactly where you want it, from a concealed fixture; X-Effects generates convincing, non-repeating movement — water, cloud, fire — with no visible screen and no obvious loop. The effect reads as part of the space, not as a display bolted onto it.
The rule of thumb: if you need changing video, use a screen; if you need a specific image, pattern or organic movement to live on real architecture, project it.
